Demystifying Tea Blending
FeaturedOn Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m., herbalist Mo Katz-Christy will teach a class entitled, “Demystifying Tea Blending.” Part science, part sensory exploration, Katz-Christy promises that the class will be as playful as it is educational. This free program is part of the library’s ongoing “foodie series,” and is sponsored by the Friends of the Rockport Public Library. Katz-Christy will discuss a handful of common herbs for tea: their uses, flavors, energies, and what they add to a blend. Participants will smell each of the herbs and taste some as well, learning how the flavors combine and how they complement each other. The class will also explore different considerations for the process of making tea, including infusing versus boiling, water temperature, and infusion time. Participants will leave the 90-minute workshop with personally crafted tea blend to take home. Limited to 20 participants. Please call the Rockport Public Library at 207-236-3642 to reserve a spot. Mo Katz-Christy (they/them) graduated from a three-year clinical herbalism program at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism in 2022. They work one-on-one with clients to address root imbalances that cause dysregulation and to promote long-term healing. You can find out more about their work at mokatzchristy.com.

Ancient Greek for Beginners
Have you ever wanted to read The Odyssey or the New Testament in the original language? By the end of this fast-paced 10-week course, you will be able to read and write (and speak!) basic sentences in Ancient Greek as it was spoken in Athens around 500 BCE. (It will not help you order a coffee in Greece!) This course is open to all ages and is ideal for those who have never studied Ancient Greek before. About the Instructor: Elizabeth Ogle recently earned her master’s in Greek and Latin Languages & Literature from Oxford University, where she focused on Greek tragedy and the Underworld. She performed in the first Greek play ever to be staged in the original language and with reconstructed Ancient Greek music, instruments, and masks. She has over four years of assistant teaching experience across all age groups. SPACE IN THE CLASS IS LIMITED. PLEASE CALL THE LIBRARY AT 207-236-3642 TO SIGN UP.
