The Library will be CLOSING EARLY AT 11:00 AM on Friday, December 19 so that our staff can attend the annual Town of Rockport Holiday Party.

Friends of the Rockport Public Library

The FRIENDS OF THE ROCKPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY introduces library lovers to each other while building connections throughout our community. Hosting meetings, events, and book sales, the organization supports the library on several levels. In past years, we have helped purchase library materials; supported the annual butterfly gardens; provided new book stacks and exterior railings; and funded programs that serve everyone using the library.

In the summer of 2024, funds raised by the Friends made it possible for Rockport Library cardholders to now have free access to over 30,000 critically acclaimed films, documentaries, and TV series via the on-demand streaming platform Kanopy. CLICK HERE to learn more about this valuable benefit.

Membership

You can join us as a Board Member; donate and become a Friend; volunteer at book sale events; or all 3! Your ideas, energy, and friendship make our library a true community anchor.

NEW PURPLE TOTE FOR 2026

Memberships are $20 a year, with your donation going directly to the library. You receive a FRPL tote bag to fill to the brim with books at the first library book sale you attend; and for $10 you can refill your bag at quarterly book sales throughout 2026. (Excluding items from the “Specials” table.) Memberships run from December 1 to November 30. You can renew your membership at each December book sale, or at the library desk throughout the year.

Volunteers

We also welcome volunteers. Half-day and day-long volunteer opportunities include:

  • Book sales set up and break down
  • Book sale cashiers/monitors for restocking
  • Book sale sorting and pricing
  • Annual Library Walk/Run, a 5K event in Rockport Village

Donations for Book Sales

For most of the year, the library will accept donations of gently used books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, and puzzles at the circulation desk on the main level. There are some occasions when FRL needs to put a temporary hold on accepting donations so that the storage area can be organized. It’s a good idea to call the library ahead of time (207-236-3642), if you plan to drop off donations.

Below is a graphic to help you understand what we are looking for, and what we cannot accept. If you have further questions, please feel free to call the library.

All books, DVDs, audiobooks, and puzzles should be in GOOD CONDITION and all have covers/pages and boxes/cases included and intact. We cannot accept items that are moldy or musty, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, magazines, encyclopedias, or any tech/medical/health/reference books more than 4 years old. DONATIONS ARE LIMITED TO 3 BOXES/BAGS per family, every 4 months.
