On Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m., the Rockport Public Library will host a program called “Working Forests, Thriving Communities” — the second talk in the library’s fall series in partnership with the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC).

Carolyn Ziegra, AMC’s Forest Manager, and Chelsea Daniels, AMC’s Community Relations Manager, will venture to the midcoast from Greenville, Maine to share the story of the working forestlands in the heart of the state. They will discuss how sustainably managed private forests support healthy ecosystems and local communities through forestry, recreation, and conservation. They will also explore endeavors to balance provisions for people and nature, and discuss ways that the public can further connect with the land.

2026 marks the 150th anniversary of the Appalachian Mountain Club. The Maine chapter of the AMC is dedicated to fostering the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of Maine’s mountains, forests, paths, and trails. Learn more at amcmaine.org and outdoors.org.
