It's time to wrap up "All the World’s a Stage" Summer Reading Program, and we are throwing quite a party! Young patrons are invited to participate in Lego boat challenges and lawn games. The program ends with a pizza party where awards will be presented to those who participated in the Summer Reading Challenge. Space is limited. Please call the library at 207-236-3642 to register.

The Rockport Public Library welcomes back Angela Loavenbruck, EdD for a presentation about hearing loss and updates related to new hearing aid technologies. The program will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. The talk is free and open to the public. “Hearing loss is one of the most common chronic conditions in older adults,” says Dr. Loavenbruck, “and it is one that people often ignore for more than 10 years after hearing difficulties are apparent.” The talk will address common types of hearing loss, and the social, emotional, and cognitive effects that hearing loss can have. Information about the most important aspects of hearing evaluations and hearing aid fitting techniques will be outlined. Dr. Loavenbruck will also discuss new technology and exciting advancements in hearing aids — for example, their ability to connect to other sound systems to help people hear better in difficult listening environments. Angela Loavenbruck has been an audiologist for more than 50 years. She is among the first audiologists in the nation to start her own independent practice, generating new delivery models for comprehensive, evidenced-based audiology services directly from audiologists. Now retired, Loavenbruck continues to provide consultation to help individuals understand their hearing... |

Valerie Neal, emerita curator in the Department of Space History at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, will present her new book at the Rockport Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m. On a Mission: The Smithsonian History of US Women Astronauts spans 45 years and 61 astronauts to share the epic journeys of women who made space for themselves in a male-dominated field. Neal’s talk will provide a culturally insightful history of the experiences of women astronauts, the challenges they've faced, and their distinctive stories. Her studies offer a sweeping look at the earliest women astronauts to Christina Hammock Koch, assigned to the first crewed Artemis mission around the Moon in 2026. The program, sponsored by the Rockport Library Foundation, is free and open to the public. Seating will be limited to 75 people, first come, first served.
