SUMMARY:Hiking in Italy: The Way of St. Francis
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, Feb. 18\, at 6 p.m.\, Camden resident Francis Boscoe will give a presentation at the Rockport Public Library detailing his experiences hiking “The Way of St. Francis” in Italy during the fall of 2025. \n\n\n\nMany thousands of pilgrims walk the “Camino de Santiago” across Spain each year. Boscoe decided to select a similar\, less traveled European pilgrimage. “The Way of St. Francis” (Via San Francesco)\, from Florence to Assisi to Rome\, sees only a small fraction of the Camino visitors\, yet has comparable amenities. Through photos and stories\, Boscoe will recount his 333 mile walk through the central Apennines\, and provide information to the audience as to how they too can follow in the footsteps of St. Francis. \n\n\n\nFrancis Boscoe is a geographer\, musician\, poet\, and substitute math teacher. He has attended language-immersion school in Italy in each of the last three years\, and has taught Italian for beginners through Five Town CSD Adult Ed.

DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black History Month\, the Rockport Public Library will feature a month-long exhibit entitled\, A Scott Joplin Celebration! From Feb. 3 through 28\, the public is invited to view original artwork\, sketches\, sketchbooks\, book prototypes\, sheet music\, and more from acclaimed author/illustrator Stephen Costanza’s book King of Ragtime: The Story of Scott Joplin. \n\n\n\nThe material featured in the exhibit will explore the life of beloved African American composer Scott Joplin\, whose joyful and irrepressible ragtime music paved the way for jazz.  \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, Feb. 28\, at 10:30 a.m.\, a Multimedia Family Show will complement the exhibit. Costanza will provide a dynamic\, music-filled presentation that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the process for creating his book about Scott Joplin. Books will be available for purchase at the event. \n\n\n\nYouth Librarian Stephanie Curcione encourages families to explore other beautifully illustrated\, musically-influenced books by Costanza. On Saturday\, Feb. 21\, at 10:30 a.m.\, Curcione will lead families in the creation of art inspired by Costanza’s book Vivaldi and the Invisible Orchestra. Space is limited. The library will also have plant-based cookbooks readily on hand for inspired attendees to borrow. \n\n\n\nAlbertson is part of the group Plant Powered MAINE\, which was formed to support those currently practicing a plant-based lifestyle or anyone that is looking to embark on a plant-based wellness journey. The group facilitates gatherings\, potlucks\, documentary screenings\, and more.
