Story as Medicine: Using the Power of Narrative to Shape How We See and Live
February 4, at 1 p.m
.

Author and authenticity coach Suzanne Carver invites participants to explore the stories they tell — about themselves, their past, and what they believe is possible — and how those stories quietly shape the way they live. Rather than focusing on writing technique, this interactive talk centers on awareness, reflection, and choice: noticing which narratives support us, which ones limit us, and where we have the power to consciously reshape the stories we’re living by.

In honor of Black History Month, the Rockport Public Library will feature a month-long exhibit explore the life of beloved African American composer Scott Joplin, whose joyful and irrepressible ragtime music paved the way for jazz. The material featured in the exhibit is from acclaimed author/illustrator Stephen Costanza’s book King of Ragtime: The Story of Scott Joplin.

On Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10:30 a.m., a Multimedia Family Show will complement the exhibit. Costanza will provide a dynamic, music-filled presentation that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the process for creating his book about Scott Joplin. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Youth Librarian Stephanie Curcione encourages families to explore other beautifully illustrated, musically-influenced books by Costanza. On Saturday, Feb. 21, at 10:30 a.m., Curcione will lead families in the creation of art inspired by Costanza’s book Vivaldi and the Invisible Orchestra. The Foundation is an IRS 501.c3 not-for-profit organization formed in 2018 by a small group of dedicated Rockport residents to raise the required funding for the new Rockport Public Library. While we successfully raised the initial funding for the building and furnishings, we’ve now set our sights on developing a world-class speaker series. CLICK HERE to learn more.
